With the recent 5.4 magnitude earthquake in LA, it is time for companies in earthquake country to start revamping their crisis management plan for such an event. As we learned in elementary school, duck, cover and hold should be the first thing employees do in the case of an earthquake. If there is nothing to duck under then a door jam is the best place to be.
Another necessary component of an earthquake crisis management plan is insurance. You should insure the building and the equipment inside especially if living in the greater LA area. Natural disasters of this kind can do havoc to things that aren’t securely fastened.
Once a month employees should have to take part in an earthquake drill so everyone knows where the safest hiding places are. Having first aid kits, flashlights, battery operated radio, water and perishable food is a must. Drawing up a crisis management plan will allow you and your employees to sleep better at night. As scientists say, the big one is coming so be ready at any moment.
